‘Avengers: Infinity War’ Beats ‘Star Wars: Force Awakens’ With $250 Million3 weeks ago by Amber Le in Heroes, Movie News
Avengers: Infinity War set a Thursday evening box office record within less than 24 hours and has been projected to keep setting the bar high as the movie is still fresh off release. Opening with $250 million in North America and $380 million overseas, Avengers brought in $630 million and that’s not even including China, where the film features on May 11.
Many weren’t sure about whether or not Marvel was going to be able to top Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which generated $248 million and held the previous record for the biggest home opening following right behind The Fate of the Furious with $541.9 million for the largest global start.
In North America, a huge family turnout on Saturday with $83 million assisted in the W under the Avengers belt for the box office top spot. It was the first film to be shot with IMAX cameras for its entirety with IMAX theaters bringing in $41 million globally and a U.S. gross of $22.5 million.
