ESPN Films and Netflix Team-Up to Create Michael Jordan Docuseries1 year ago by Jhone White-Lucas in Movie News, TV News
Earlier today, ESPN Films and Netflix announced they are partnering to create The Last Dance, a 10 episode documentary series centered on one of the most influential icons in sports history, Michael Jordan. Among many other record breaking accomplishments, Jordan remains the second-highest-scoring NBA player by total career playoff points scored (5,987).
The docuseries focuses on Jordan during his time playing for the Chicago Bulls in the 1990s and features over 500 hours of never-before-seen footage from the team’s last championship run in the 1997-98 season. The series also examines the simultaneous rise to popularity for Jordan and the NBA, while including segments from other prominent players during that time.
The Last Dance is produced by Mandalay Sports Media’s Mike Tollin and directed by Jason Hehir (The Fab Five, The ’85 Bears, Andre the Giant), who is no stranger to the documentary world. In 2009, he was nominated for the Sports Emmy Award for Outstanding Sports Documentary for Jose Canseco: Last Shot. The series is set to premiere on Netflix in 2019.
