Jordan Peele surprised horror fans yesterday with another trailer for his upcoming movie, Us. The sophomore debut from the director will be a follow up to his first movie, Get Out. Peele wants to make a statement in the Hollywood industry, mentioning that he wants to prove that race isn’t everything last week.
“It’s important to me that we can tell black stories without it being about race. I realized I had never seen a horror movie of this kind, where there’s an African American family at the center that just is. After you get over the initial reaction that you’re watching a black family in a horror film, you’re just watching a movie. You’re just watching people. I feel like it proves a very valid and different point than Get Out.”
In the trailer, Lupita Nyong’o’s character shows concern over the events that have been happening to her family during their beach getaway.
“You know how sometimes things line up? Coincidences? Since we’ve been here, they’ve been happening more and more. It’s like there’s a black cloud hanging over us.”
