Oprah Winfrey Praises the Success of Women at 10th Annual Summit1 week ago by Ivette Epps in Trending
Philanthropist and former talk show host, Oprah Winfrey took the stage at the New York Lincoln Center Wednesday night for Tina Brown’s 10th Annual Women in the World Summit. Winfrey was a keynote speaker praising the 42 newly elected women of Congress while celebrating the accomplishments of women in the United States.
As Winfrey delivered a passionate speech about what it means to be a woman at this time, she stated that it’s time for women in the world to set the agenda. The speech quickly turned into a feminist rally while she reflected on women’s history.
“And when we fulfill that task of actually making ourselves whole we’re set up to fully express what we know — to now negotiate, differentiate, placate, facilitate, demonstrate, and delegate and on a really good day it helps us carve out 20 minutes to actually meditate.”
Not only does Winfrey say women should continue to “rock the boat,” but she redefines a message that’s positive, ambitious, inclusive and “brimming with hope.” The Women in the World Summit runs through April 12. Watch the recap of Oprah’s inspiring speech below.
Here’s the mission statement breaking down Tina Brown’s purpose for Women in the World Summit:
“Women who are on the front lines all over the world come to our stage to tell their stories at our summits and salons. They are activists, CEOs, peacemakers, entrepreneurs, and firebrand dissidents. They’ve saved and enriched lives and shattered glass ceilings in every sector. With vivid journalistic narratives, stirring videos, and provocative discussions, Women in the World is the premier showcase for women of impact and for the men who champion them.”
