Ryan Coogler Reveals He’d Be Onboard for a Ladies Edition of Black Panther1 week ago by Hadiya Cambridge in Movie News
Ryan Coogler’s name definitely rings bells in Hollywood if mentioned. The young director exceeded the worlds expectations with his creative direction of Marvel’s Black Panther that grossed 1.3 billion dollars in ticket sales.
The storyline, scenery and cast contributed to the success of the film by bringing Wakanda to life in one of Marvels first predominantly all black cast. During the Cannes Film Festival, Coogler was asked by the moderator if he thought the woman of Black Panther were just as important as the men, Coogler did not hesitate. “I think you could argue they are more important,” he said.
He later shared one of his favorite parts of the movies where the women of Wakanda took the spotlight for several scenes.
“There’s a whole section of the film where T’Challa is out of the movie and you’re just following the women,” Coogler said about the heroic character who at one point is left for dead and needs to be rescued. “That’s one of my favorite parts of the movie when I watched it, and I didn’t expect that.”
“That part of the movie you feel like you’re watching something fresh and new,” he explained. “That part of it was exciting. We have these actresses who could easily carry their own movie,” he stated, as he mentioned the female leads Lupita Nyong’o, Danai Gurira, and Letitia Wright. “Some of them have before. We were so fortunate. I would watch a movie with them!”
The director seems to just be talking….but we hope those words turn into action!
