‘Solo: A Star Wars Story’ Beat One Box Office Record3 weeks ago by JoiAshanti Watkis in FILMS, Movie News, REVIEWS
Over memorial weekend, Solo: A Star Wars Story hit theaters starring Alden Ehrenreich, Donald Glover, and Emilia Clarke. This new story of the Star Wars franchise made 101 million dollars over the weekend. Though that seems pretty well looking from the outside in, the Solo movie spent 250 million dollars in productions and marketing, therefore not making a beneficial profit that was expected.
However, Solo did make the most money during their opening weekend in the heist genre category. Movies such as Fast Five and Inception were in the lead in the heist genre when it came to their opening weekend box office numbers. Even though Solo was not specifically categorized as a heist genre, it does have similar elements. Gaining any form of record is being accepted at this point, especially after the difficulties of this production.
There was a lot of reshooting being done after Phil Lord and Chris Miller got fired and Ron Howard came on board. This cost the production company even more money. Within the film industry, there will always be films that have expectations that aren’t met. It is good to recognize that even though opening weekend wasn’t as successful as what was projected, there Is still time to make profit as long as it remains in theaters, with little competition at the current time.
