During the premiere of Surviving R. Kelly at NeueHouse Madison Square on Tuesday evening, everyone in attendance were evacuated from the building due numerous threats. Calls from anonymous numbers threatened to bring in gunment 15 minutes beofre the panel discussion began at 8 P.M. Police have tracked the call tips back to Chicago.
Members of the panel discussion included Lisa Van Allen, Asante McGee, Lizzette Martinez, Kitti Jones and Jerhonda Pace. Lifetime Network released a statement regarding the cancellation.
“At tonight’s premiere of Lifetime’s documentary series Surviving R. Kelly at NeueHouse Madison Square, several anonymous threats were called in. As a precaution, the network elected to evacuate the building. The safety and security of our panel, guests and staff is paramount importance to Lifetime.”
Dream Hampton, the series’ executive producer took to Twitter to share her thoughts regarding the incident.
“Tonight re-traumatized the survivors who were brave enough to sit with e and share their stories and who were at the screening. They’ve received SO MUCH hate for coming forward. Trust, there’s no payday for them…”
In addition, she also commented on the calls in a response to a CNN email.
“Calling in a noncredible threat to the NYPD to interrupt our screen IS an act of desperation from people who don’t want these truths shared with the world.”
