Avengers: Infinity War has officially grossed $2 billion globally after just 48 days in theaters. Marvel’s superhero-action film is now the fourth highest-grossing movie of all time. This milestone comes after the film broke a number of records including the largest opening weekend of all time with $258 million. The record was previously held by Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
Infinity War is one of just four movies to ever gross $2 billion at the worldwide box office. Two out of the other three movies to reach this milestone were action films. With Infinity War in fourth place, 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens also made it onto the list after just 20 days of release. The Star Wars film currently holds the third spot. In second place, 1997’s Titanic also reached the monumental box office feat. Lastly, James Cameron’s science-fiction film Avatar, which was released in 2009, still holds the record for the fastest rise to $2 billion at the worldwide box office.
Although Infinity War is still only in fourth place, it is clear that all who made sure to catch the superhero blockbuster film in theaters contributed to movie history and Marvel history being made.
