Travis Scott Explains Why He Agreed To Perform At The Super Bowl1 week ago by Amber Le in Trending
Travis Scott had the whole industry looking at him sideways when he agreed to perform with Maroon 5 during the Super Bowl halftime show. Many fans voiced their opinions and stated that they did not agree with his decision. Majority felt as though Scott was going against the Colin Kaepernick grain, the movement he started on the football field to raise awareness of social injustice. Despite the “canceled” comments, the SICKO MODE rapper released a statement earlier this morning.
“I back anyone who takes a stand for what they believe in. I know being an artist that it’s in my power to inspire. So before confirming the Super Bowl Halftime performance, I made sure to partner with the NFL on this important donation. I am proud to support Dream Corps and the work they do that will hopefully inspire and promote change.”
He negotiated a donation to Van Jones’ organization, Dream Corps which was founded in 2014. The organization’s mission statement is “to inspire action, serve justice and improve people’s lives.” Jones was very excited upon the announcement and welcomed him into the family.
Although it was a generous offer and a humble act, other music artists may not see it that way. From Rihanna to Pink, every entertainer made it clear that they will not be partaking in the Super Bowl celebration because of their unison with Kaep. Jay-Z is trying to talk Scott out of it and Meek Mill clearly showed his disappointment via social media.
Catch Scott’s Halftime show performance on February 3rd.
