South Park is set to return on Paramount+ next year. With the 2024 presidential election between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris underway, South Park is missing the mark to poke fun at the event. However, according to the animated series’ creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the delay is somewhat “on purpose” because they are no longer interested in tarnishing Trump’s name.
“We’ve tried to do South Park through four or five presidential elections, and it is such a hard thing to — it’s such a mind scramble, and it seems like it takes outsized importance,” Stone stated.
“Obviously, it’s f***ing important, but it kind of takes over everything, and we just have less fun,” Parker continued. “I don’t know what more we could possibly say about Trump.”
Parker also mentioned that he and Stone are “waiting for Paramount to figure all their s**t out.” Although they didn’t elaborate on what’s happening with Paramount, the studio is currently going through a pending sale to Skydance. In July, the two companies reached an agreement worth a reported $8 million. Skydance asserts the deal is valued at $28 billion. Skydance is valued at $4.75 billion.
The creators of South Park are currently preparing to release their documentary ¡Casa Bonita Mi Amor! For those who are unfamiliar, Casa Bonita is a restaurant in Denver and was featured in South Park’s seventh season. The movie will hit theaters in New York, Los Angeles, Austin, Boston, and other select cities on September 13.
South Park made its debut on television on August 13, 1997. The series has 26 seasons to date. The adult animated show follows four grade-schoolers named Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman as they navigate through several chaotic misadventures in the quiet, dysfunctional town of South Park, Colorado.
