Mufasa: The Lion King star Aaron Pierre is set to reprise his role as the Green Lantern in DC Studios’ upcoming Superman sequel Man of Tomorrow. The Hollywood Reporter states that James Gunn will also be giving the Superman franchise another go as its director. Meanwhile, David Corenswet will return as Superman, and Nicholas Hoult will dive back into his character Lex Luthor. German actor Lars Eidinger is playing one of Superman’s classic villains. The production is said to start this April in Atlanta, Georgia.

Man of Tomorrow follows Lex Luthor and Superman as they team up to fight a technological alien threat known as Brainiac. According to IGN, Pierre will learn the ropes of playing Green Lantern in HBO’s new series, which will premiere in August 2026. The show is about John Stewart (Green Lantern), who goes under Kyle Chandler’s veteran Hal Jordan’s wing to investigate a murder in the American heartland.

John Stewart was created by writer Dennis O’Neil and artist Neal Adams, making his debut in Green Lantern #87 in December 1971. The character later reached a wider audience when he became a central figure in the Justice League animated series in the early 2000s, voiced by Phil LaMarr. Man of Tomorrow is the second Superman film from James Gunn to include a Green Lantern in a supporting role. Superman previously introduced Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, a fellow Lantern known for his brash and abrasive personality.
