After filming Disney‘s upcoming blockbuster Jungle Cruise together, Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson will partner up for a second time. They’re making a superhero movie, and it’s heading to Netflix. However it’s not about the DC Comics super-villain Black Adam or the Shazam spinoff that Johnson has now been hyping for years.
Ball And Chain is based on a 1990s comic created by Scott Lobdell and Ale Garza. This time around they’re an unhappily married couple who accidentally gain superpowers and can only use those powers when they’re together.
The once wrestler took to Instagram on Thursday to share the news writing, “This project has become quite the unique & dynamic recipe to cook up. And I’m excited to team up with these very talented women. In #BallAndChain, my dear friend (I’m contractually obligated to call her that) Emily Blunt and I will play a married couple on the verge of divorce, who become blessed with superpowers that only work when we’re together. Written by Oscar nominated @emilyvgordon, who of all things, is also a licensed couples therapist ???? #BallAndChain.”
Johnson, Dany and Hiram Garcia will produce under Seven Bucks banner along with Kevin Misher and Emily Blunt. Meanwhile, their film Jungle Cruise has been postponed due to the coronavirus outbreak. The film has been now set to release July 2021.
