Charli XCX Turns “Brat Summer” Into Big-Screen Chaos With Sundance-Bound Mockumentary ‘The Moment’

If you thought Brat Summer was over, you’re wrong! In fact, it’s just getting cinematic. Charli XCX is officially bringing her genre-bending pop persona to the big screen with The Moment, a new mockumentary set to make its world premiere at the 2026 Sundance Film Festival. Following the announcement of Sundance’s expansive 2026 lineup, a newly released trailer offers the clearest glimpse yet into the wild, satirical, and pressure-cooker world behind the pop star’s first arena tour. After its festival debut, The Moment will roll out in theaters nationwide on January 30th.

Directed by acclaimed music video auteur Aidan Zamiri in his feature film debut, The Moment is inspired by Charli XCX’s real-life experiences navigating explosive fame after the SWEAT tour with Troye Sivan and her own Brat tour. Rather than delivering a conventional concert documentary, the film flips the format on its head. It follows a heightened, fictionalized version of Charli as she prepares for her arena tour debut. While grappling with industry pressure, creative burnout, and the looming fear that everything could unravel at the exact moment it’s supposed to solidify her legacy.

The trailer teases a sharp, self-aware descent into controlled chaos, as Charli’s grip on reality is tested by mounting expectations, inner demons, and a system determined to package her authenticity. The result is a biting exploration of fame, identity, and the cost of turning a cultural moment into a commercial machine.

Backing Charli is an eclectic, star-studded ensemble that matches the film’s unpredictable energy, including Rosanna Arquette, Kate Berlant, Jamie Demetriou, Rachel Sennott, Alexander Skarsgård, Kylie Jenner, Rish Shah, and more. The Moment also marks a high-profile collaboration with indie powerhouse A24, with Charli producing alongside David Hinojosa. Zamiri co-wrote the screenplay with Bertie Brandes, shaping the film directly from Charli’s creative vision.

Fresh off a dominant 2024 and an increasingly busy Hollywood slate, Charli XCX is firmly establishing herself as a multi-hyphenate force. Beyond The Moment, she’s appearing in several buzzy projects premiering at Sundance and beyond, while continuing to influence pop culture on her own terms. Both on-screen and behind the scenes.

With that being said, The Moment premieres at Sundance before hitting U.S. theaters on January 30th. If the trailer is any indication, Charli XCX isn’t just documenting a rise, but showcasing how she’s redefining what it looks like when pop stardom breaks the fourth wall.
