Chris Sanders, co-creator of the original Lilo & Stitch, is in talks to write the script for Disney’s upcoming live-action sequel, Lilo & Stitch 2. Sanders also voiced Experiment 626 (Stitch) in the 2002 animated film. The first live-action adaptation, released in May 2025, was directed by Dean Fleischer Camp and written by Chris Kekaniokalani Bright and Mike Van Waes. Jonathan Eirich is set to return as producer for the sequel.

The live-action Lilo & Stitch was a major box office hit, earning $183 million over its opening Memorial Day weekend, setting a new holiday record alongside Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning. Overall, it made over $400 million. So far, there’s no details about the storyline. However, Lilo & Stitch follows a young girl named Lilo who adopted what she thought was a dog, Stitch, who turned out to be an alien. That film led to two animated sequels and a TV show.

Sanders first made his directorial debut with the original Lilo & Stitch in 2002, alongside Dean DeBlois. The two later worked together on How to Train Your Dragon. Sanders also co-directed The Croods and directed The Call of the Wild in 2020, starring Harrison Ford.
