D’Angelo, who is mostly known for his babymaking hit “Untitled (How Does It Feel)” and “Lady,” is going head-to-head with an anonymous musical figure in the next Verzuz. The series announced that he will be accompanied by “friends.”
On Valentine’s Day, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland released the following statement:
“Happy Valentine’s Day loved ones. Our gift to you. Live from the @ApolloTheater in Harlem. Who you think is pullin’ up to take on the King on February 27th? Sure to be a legendary night!”
In recent D’Angelo news, he worked alongside Erykah Badu last year on Slingbaum‘s track, “Behoove.”
Verzuz-wise, Fat Joe reported that LL Cool J wants to appear as a guest soon. He’s aiming to get Jay-Z or Drake as an opponent.
“LL Cool J, let me tell you, he’s my idol. I wouldn’t even feel right, you know what I’m saying?” said Fat Joe. “I rap ’cause of him. LL wants Jay-Z or Drake. That’s who LL Cool J allegedly wants. Jay-Z or Drake.”
Verzuz is currently in its second season following its launch last spring.
The artists who have performed thus far are:
Gucci Mane and Jeezy, Brandy and Monica, Patti LaBelle and Gladys Knight, and E-40 and Too $hort. Not too long ago, Ashanti and Keyshia Cole sang their hit singles, but they had to reschedule their episode twice due to COVID-19.
D’Angelo and his friends’ Verzuz will air on Saturday, February 27th, 2021, at 8:00 PM EST on Instagram.
