DC Studios Reveals A Bold New Era With First ‘Supergirl’ Teaser

DC Studios has officially released the first teaser for Supergirl, offering audiences an electrifying glimpse at Milly Alcock’s solo debut as Kara Zor-El in the evolving DC Universe. Following her introduction in this summer’s Superman, Alcock steps fully into the spotlight as a hardened, emotionally complex Supergirl—one far removed from the traditionally polished superhero archetype.

Inspired by the acclaimed DC Comics series Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely, the film centers on a world-weary Kara who is pulled into an interstellar journey of vengeance alongside a young alien companion. The story promises a raw, character-driven take on heroism, shaped by grief, survival, and moral reckoning.

The film is directed by Craig Gillespie of I, Tonya and written by Ana Nogueira, with a cast that includes Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll, Matthias Schoenaerts as the formidable villain Krem of the Yellow Hills, and Jason Momoa as fan-favorite antihero Lobo. DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn and Peter Safran produce.

At a recent teaser event, Alcock described seeing herself as Supergirl for the first time as “surreal,” while Gillespie emphasized that Supergirl is intentionally crafted as an antihero story. Emotionally layered and distinct from Superman’s optimism. Gunn echoed that vision, noting the film’s commitment to portraying Kara as flawed, resilient, and unapologetically human.

With its gritty tone, interstellar scope, and emphasis on character over convention, Supergirl aims to redefine what a solo superhero film can be. Especially for female-led stories in the genre. Set for release in Summer 2026, the film positions Kara Zor-El not as a counterpart to Superman, but as a powerful force in her own right. And judging by this first teaser, DC’s next chapter is ready to take flight!
