A trailer has just released for Spike Lee’s new movie, Highest 2 Lowest. The clip features Denzel Washington in the role of a powerful music executive who becomes entangled in a kidnapping situation. The kidnapper demands $17.5 million in a black backpack and tells Washington’s character, David, to take the 4 train to Manhattan. During the call, the kidnapper says, “You’re not God anymore… I am!” The video also highlights quick scenes from the movie with animated clips and shots of the Brooklyn Bridge. We catch a glimpse of A$AP Rocky’s character in the trailer as well.

David’s friend and driver, played by Jeffrey Wright, makes an appearance later on in the trailer. At one point, he says, “Sometimes you’ve got to be a little crazy to get what you want.” When the two prepare for a possible fight, Wright’s character loads a gun. When David asks why, he replies, “Insurance. That’s Jake from State Farm.”
Highest 2 Lowest marks the fifth time Washington and Spike Lee have worked together, and their first collaboration in nearly 20 years.
Set in New York City, the movie is a modern take on the 1963 Japanese crime drama High and Low by Akira Kurosawa. Washington’s character is pulled into a dangerous situation when someone close to him is kidnapped.

The cast also includes Elijah Wright, Aubrey Joseph, and Ice Spice. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May.
