Ozark star Julia Garner has disclosed what it was like playing Silver Surfer Shalla-Bal in Fantastic Four: The First Steps.
Julia Garner recently spoke with ComicBook.com to discuss her role in the upcoming horror film, Wolf Man. During the sit-down, she was asked about joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the Silver Surfer in The Fantastic Four: First Steps.
Reflecting on her experience preparing for the role, Garner shared, “I mean, just how big it is. It’s a big universe, and I feel so grateful I get to be a little part of it, to be honest.”
She also conveyed her admiration for her fellow cast members, describing the ensemble for The Fantastic Four: First Steps as “phenomenal.”
In the movie, she worked alongside Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, to name a few.
Garner went on to praise the film’s director, Matt Shakman, calling him “amazing” and expressing her enthusiasm for contributing to the ever-expanding MCU.
The actress has taken on the role of Shalla-Bal, a character who first appeared in Marvel Comics as the Empress of the planet Zenn-La. Shalla-Bal is also known as the Silver Surfer’s lover, Norrin Radd, who was previously featured in the 2007 film Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer. The character made her debut in The Silver Surfer #1, published in August of 1968.
The Fantastic Four explores the lives of Mr. Fantastic, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm, The Human Torch, The Thing, and the Silver Surfer. It pulls inspiration from the comic book that launched the Marvel Comics universe in 1961. The characters are created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby.
