Princess Diana, born Diana Francis Spencer, rose to notoriety in the 1980s when she became engaged to Prince Charles, the eldest son of Queen Elizabeth II. The fame proved to be incredibly difficult for the young girl, barely in her 20’s at the time, and the once exuberant Diana slid into a deep depression that, coupled with disdain from within the Royal Family, nearly drove her to madness. When it seemed like she had finally begun to escape that chapter of her life however and start fresh, her life was cut tragically short in a car accident in Paris, France; the date was August 31st, 1997 and Diana was just 36 years old. Since then her death has been shrouded with mystery and confusion, but her life has been instead celebrated in remembrance of the kindhearted activist and socialite, and now HBO plans to contribute their part. The Princess will draw upon archival materials and information to draw viewers into the life of Princess Diana, presenting them with both the good and the bad and providing an intimate look at what life was like as a member of the Royal Family. HBO officially announced that The Princess will debut on Saturday August 13th at 8 PM on HBO and will additionally be available to stream on HBO Max.
Best known for the public image she held and her will to use that for good through charitable works, Princess Diana’s death left the entire world in awe. Her death was so confounding that some conspiracy theorists believe to this day she was potentially set up by the Royal Family, but none of those allegations have been proven true. While we may never know the truth, HBO subscribers can look forward to the premiere of The Princess in a few short weeks.
