The Home Alone franchise is among the most revered in the history of the film industry. Starring a very young Macaulay Culkin, the notorious series of films followed a young man who is left home alone while his family is on vacation and is forced to deal with more than he expected. While the premise may seem outlandish with today’s knowledge of stranger danger and the risks of leaving children alone, the franchise has aged incredibly well and continues to be beloved by many. So much so that the franchise is now set to be rebooted, with Home Sweet Home Alone set to debut on Disney+ this fall.
Home Sweet Home Alone will follow the same plotline as its predecessor, but with fresh faces at the film’s core. Archie Yates is set to play Max Mercer, the young boy who is left at home this time around while his family vacations overseas and has to protect his home from intruders in the process. Yates will be joined by esteemed Saturday Night Live alumni Keenan Thompson and Chris Parnell, as well as members of the franchise’s original cast such as Devin Ratray who appeared in the first two films. The news came via 20th Century Studios’ Twitter account, with the tweet reposted below, and features other notable faces such as Ellie Kemper, Rob Delaney and Aisling Bea, and highlights the films release date of November 12th on Disney+.
Beginning in 1990, the Home Alone franchise includes five films to date that are all considered to be part of the iconic Hollywood canon. The franchise cemented Culkin’s place in Hollywood history and continues to provide countless fans with joy every holiday season to this day. Now the franchise is being reimagined for a new generation of fans who will get to experience the magic of Home Alone for the first time. Fans old and new can look forward to the premiere of Home Sweet Home Alone on Disney+ November 12th.
