Idris Elba stars in Beast , a heart-racing safari adventure. This is Idris’s first thriller centering around an animal, a beast if you will. Idris has starred in numerous adrenaline-filled movies like The Mountain Between Us where his character has to fight to survive a crash landing or Obsessed where his character has to survive a crazed human. With those two and others, we know Idris is going to give us a good thrill.
Idris has always kept us on the edge of our seats but Beast adds a new layer of thrill. Dr.Nate, his character, is on a safari to heal after a major traumatic event in his life. Suddenly a lion starts to stalk him and his group. Now Dr. Nate is challenged to keep his group safe, a group that includes two of his own daughters. The lion appears to be a survivor of a poacher’s attempt, which tells us that he is strong and angry at humans. Raged, confused, and out for revenge this lion won’t stop until there isn’t a single human left near him.
I know there are some of you who would like to know what the buzz is around Beast.
Michael Phillips with The Chicago Tribune says, “As with so much of this director’s work, I’m in the middle on Beast though its efficient running time puts it a notch above. Like many of his previous films, this one has the advantage of modest scale and a passing interest in human resourcefulness under extreme duress. It has also the disadvantage of spectacle that is more technical than artistic.”
Taylor Lyles with IGN says, “While Beast certainly does little to innovate in the survival thriller genre, it does serve decent fun for fans that want to see Idris Elba fighting a giant, man-hunting lion.”
