Meet George Jetson… again! Jim Carrey is in talks to star in Warner Bros.’ live-action The Jetsons, directed by Colin Trevorrow. The future of comedy just went cosmic…
Fasten your seatbelts and set your phasers to nostalgia! Jim Carrey is reportedly in talks to star in Warner Bros.’ long-anticipated live-action adaptation of The Jetsons. The beloved Space Age family from Hanna-Barbera’s iconic 1962 animated series is finally rocketing to the big screen, with Colin Trevorrow of Jurassic World Dominion attached to direct.
According to The Wrap, Trevorrow will helm the project, with Joe Epstein (The Idol) co-writing the script alongside him. The film marks Warner Bros.’ latest revival of a classic animation property, following their modern takes on Scoob! and Tom & Jerry.
The original Jetsons series introduced audiences to George Jetson, his wife Jane, their kids Judy and Elroy, their loyal robotic maid Rosie, and their talkative dog Astro. All living in a retro-futuristic utopia of flying cars, holographic gadgets, and push-button conveniences. It was television’s optimistic answer to The Flintstones, imagining what family life might look like in the year 2062.
While no official plot details have been revealed, sources suggest the film will blend retro sci-fi aesthetics with a heartfelt family narrative, reimagining the Jetsons’ world through a modern lens of humor, technology, and social satire.
Carrey’s potential casting as George Jetson has already generated buzz online, with fans eager to see the comedian bring his signature elasticity and charisma to the iconic role. Known for his transformative performances in The Mask, Bruce Almighty, and Sonic the Hedgehog, Carrey feels like a natural fit for the project’s quirky, high-energy tone. The actor’s recent success as Dr. Robotnik in Paramount’s Sonic franchise showcased his ability to thrive in live-action and effects-driven worlds, making The Jetsons a logical next orbit.
For director Colin Trevorrow, The Jetsons represents another opportunity to blend visual spectacle with family storytelling. Following his global success with Jurassic World and its sequels, Trevorrow has proven his knack for balancing large-scale adventure with human emotion. A combination that seems tailor-made for the Jetsons’ dynamic family chaos.
The path to bringing The Jetsons to live-action has been decades in the making. Since the 1980s, various iterations have been in development, with filmmakers such as Robert Rodriguez and Adam Shankman previously attached. Even Back to the Future director Robert Zemeckis produced a pilot for a live-action Jetsons TV series in 2017, though it never made it to air.
If greenlit, the upcoming feature could finally launch the Jetsons into the cinematic stratosphere, merging 1960s retro-futurism with 21st-century spectacle. And with Carrey potentially piloting the project, audiences can expect equal parts humor, heart, and high-flying hijinks. Although, Warner Bros. has not yet announced an official release date or additional casting, either way the future is looking bright, bold, and unmistakably Jetson.
