Netflix has acquired the rights to a documentary about Kanye West. According to Rap-Up, the series has been in the works for 21 years. Given everything that’s been reported about the JESUS IS KING in the tabloids, it’s no surprise that there will be coverage surrounding it all. The project is reportedly worth $30 million.
The untitled project is being worked on by Clarence “Coodie” Simmons and Chike Ozah, also known as Coodie and Chike, the director behind West’s first music videos, “Through the Wire” and the third version of “Jesus Walks.”
Simmons has been documenting West since the 1990s in Chicago. The documentary series will explore West’s rise to fame and the impact it has on him. West is not creatively involved in the production. He has reportedly given his consent by allowing himself to be filmed by Coodie & Chike for the past two decades. His former bodyguard Steve Stanulis has described the documentary as “’48 Hours’ real. There’s no release date yet. But stay tuned!
