Disney has officially pushed back the release dates for Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars. The delay was announced during a sweeping reorganization of Disney’s movie lineup. A ton of unannounced Marvel projects have been removed from the calendar, including a movie once scheduled for February 13, 2026. Other films that were scheduled for November 6, 2026, and November 5, 2027, have now been relabeled as general “Untitled Disney” films. So far, only two Marvel Cinematic Universe movies are planned for 2026: Avengers: Doomsday and Spider-Man: Brand New Day. At the same token, both new Avengers films are now scheduled for mid-December, a similar time frame for Spider-Man: No Way Home, which earned $1.9 billion globally after its 2021 holiday release.

There will be no Marvel films in theaters between Fantastic 4: First Steps, which drops on July 25, 2025, and the next Spider-Man movie, which premieres on July 31, 2026. That’s over a full year between MCU theatrical release: the longest gap since COVID-19.
Disney still holds a few slots in 2028 for future Marvel releases (February 18, May 5, and November 10), but no specific titles are tied to those dates yet. Flicks like Blade and Armor Wars remain in development but don’t have confirmed release dates.
This slowdown comes after Disney CEO Bob Iger said Marvel had spread itself too thin with too many projects. He believes that by focusing more on quality over quantity, the studio can bounce back stronger.

Both Doomsday and Secret Wars are expected to be blockbuster films. Doomsday will include the return of Robert Downey Jr. not as Iron Man, but as the villain Doctor Doom. The projects will also bring in characters from Thunderbolts, Fantastic 4, and even X-Men, including appearances from Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen. Filming for Doomsday has already picked up, with Downey recently seen supporting other Marvel productions alongside the cast.
