Pig director Michael Sarnoski recently explained in an interview why A Quiet Place writer, director, and star John Krasinski chose him for the prequel A Quiet Place: Day One.
According to Sarnoski’s feature in Empire, Krasinski picked him to oversee the direction of A Quiet Place: Day One based on his approach to films.
“When (Krasinski) first brought me onto the project, his directive was, ‘Can you bring some of that Pig touch to the A Quiet Place universe?'” Sarnoski stated. “What he wanted was to see someone else play in the sandbox that he had created. Finding those differences was exciting. It wasn’t something that we leaned away from.”
The director then explained the differences between A Quiet Place: Day One and previous A Quiet Place films.
“In the first two, family was really important,” Sarnoski said. “And with that comes characters that have an established relationship. I wanted to explore what the end of the world looked like for people that didn’t have an established relationship or a reason to care about each other.”
A Quiet Place: Day One is about a group of strangers who unite to fight against the chaos that occurs one day in New York City once sound-hunting aliens land on Earth.
The movie stars Lupita Nyong’o, who plays Samira, and Joseph Quinn, who plays Eric. Alex Wolff and Eliane Umuhire are also in the cast.
There are currently two A Quiet Place films: A Quiet Place and A Quiet Place Part II. The first movie earned $340 million at the box office, while the second one amassed $297 million. A video game for the post-apocalyptic horror franchise has been in the works since October of 2021.
“The A Quiet Place video game will let fans experience the tension of the films with a level of immersion they’ve never felt before,” the game’s developer states.
