The icon herself, Missy Elliott, is back with a new vibrant, and super fresh music video. This time she’s got a video for the ICONOLOGY EP track “Cool Off,” a neon-filled twerk-party set in a high-end museum that depicts Missy herself as a bronzed work of art.
“Cool Off,” is the last installment to a series of videos Elliot has released for this album. In the Daniel Russell-directed clip, the rapper appears as a bronze statue that begins to sing, surrounded by other living statues that dance alongside her. The museum transforms into a ravenous club with lights and 3D-art backgrounds as the opening scene is immersed with clips of a lively crew of dancers carrying out the best choreography of all time, twerking. All the while, Elliott reappears in a colorful outfit as a bobbing, tilting doll rolling around to the rhythm of the music.
The hook is so catchy and easy to learn that you may find yourself immediately singing along and following the sway of Missy’s body as she sings, “Do it, do it, do it, do it / Cool off / Cool off, cool off, cool off.”
Towards the end of the video, Teyana Taylor returns to her museum guide role from Elliott’s previous “DripDemeanor” video. Set in a gallery featuring paintings of the Elliot herself, Taylor talks to a young girl, describing her as “the greatest, most timeless woman of all time,” and this is absolutely true. Last summer, Elliot received MTV’s Video Vanguard Award, which paid homage to her outstanding achievements across the board. She also performed a career-encompassing medley of her most famous hits during the ceremony.
This final video truly delivers on every level in bringing us more iconic Missy outfits, Missy visuals, and signature Missy sounds.
