Netflix has revealed a teaser for Squid Game‘s third season following the second season’s debut on December 26, 2024.
After showcasing the first poster for the upcoming season, the streaming platform dropped a mini clip on X, formerly known as Twitter, which includes a new doll named Chul-su. Above it, the tweet reads: “Everyone say hi to Chul-su.” The show’s latest addition was also displayed in the second season’s mid-credits scene. In a short amount of time, viewers witnessed three players approaching the infamous ‘Red Light, Green Light’ game doll, Young-hee. From there, the camera pans to Chul-su, teasing the doll’s first appearance.
Squid Game creator Hwang Dong-hyuk touched on the third season’s release date and plot during an interview with Variety.
“At this point, anything I might say is going to be a spoiler, so I want to be cautious. But what I can say is, after Season 2 launches, I believe we will be announcing the launch date for Season 3 soon,” he stated. “I probably expect that to launch around summer or fall next year.”
Dong-hyuk also spoke about Seong Gi-hun, a main character in Squid Game. In short, he dropped easter eggs about Gi-hun’s progression in the show.
“As for the storyline of the third season, Gi-hun having lost everything, including his best friend, and all of his attempts going to failure, it’s now, what is he going to be like? What state is Gi-hun going to be in? And what will he choose to do? Will he continue on with the mission? Is he going to give up or persist? And so you’re going to meet our character Gi-hun at a very critical crossroads as we begin the third season. Gi-hun will not be the man he was in Season 2.”
According to the official logline, the second season of Squid Game sees Player 456 searching on the hunt for the people responsible for the vicious games. He uses his money to look for the culprit, starting with the man in a sharp suit who plays ddakji in the subway. When Player 456 gets to the bottom of things, he realizes that taking down the organization is more complicated than it seems. To end the game, he must re-enter it.
