Kendrick Lamar is collaborating with South Park creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker to produce a live-action comedy movie. In January, Deadline unveiled that the trio is making the film for Paramount Pictures with Lamar’s creative partner Dave Free. But now, there is more insight regarding the whole creative project.
As per HotNewHipHop, Parker is officially directing the movie. Shooting for the film was supposed to happen last spring but was halted due to Stone and Parker’s schedule.
According to the untitled movie’s synopsis, “The film will depict the past and present coming to a head when a young black man who is interning as a slave reenactor at a living history museum discovers that his white girlfriend’s ancestors once owned his.“
Kendrick Lamar and the creators of South Park collaborated previously on his music video for “The Heart Part V.” Stone and Parker’s deep fake technology held a huge part in the visual’s creative direction.
“You see, Kendrick turned into Tupac, Kendrick turned into Kanye, and I think we had Eminem,” Stone told The New York Times over Zoom.
He also mentioned that they all brainstormed about having Kendrick Lamar transform into Jessie Smollett.
