James Wan’s horror film Saw will be re-released theatrically for its 20th anniversary. Unlike the original film, the re-released Saw will be unrated and feature exclusive bonus content, including dialogue from lead star Tobin Bell. Bell will also dissect Saw’s influence in the horror movie industry and discuss what happened behind the scenes.
The first Saw debuted in theaters in 2004 and was directed by The Conjuring creator James Wan. Invisible Man’s filmmaker Leigh Whannell penned the script. Whannell also starred in Saw alongside Bell as Jigsaw, Cary Elwes as Dr. Lawrence Gordon, Danny Glover as Detective David Tapp, Ken Leung as Detective Steven Sing, Dina Meyer as Kerry, Shawnee Smith as Amanda, Makenzie Vega as Diana Gordon, Monica Potter as Alison Gordon and more. After taking the film industry by storm, Saw birthed ten more sequels, including the upcoming Saw XI, which will debut in 2025.
“Photographer Adam Stanheight and oncologist Lawrence Gordon regain consciousness while chained to pipes at either end of a filthy bathroom,” the film’s synopsis states. “As the two men realize they’ve been trapped by a sadistic serial killer nicknamed “Jigsaw” and must complete his perverse puzzle to live, flashbacks relate the fates of his previous victims. Meanwhile, Dr. Gordon’s wife and young daughter are forced to watch his torture via closed-circuit video.”
Saw will return to theaters on October 20-23. Tickets for Saw are available at Fathom Events or at participating theater box offices.
