“Black Widow” actress Scarlett Johansson speaks up about the extent of expression that comes with the roles of female superheroes. From an actress who is all too familiar with taking on female superhero roles in both film and regular life, her wish is for the bar to be pushed further, showing more femininity rather than Batman’s in heels.
Scarlett Johansson as usual takes a bold stand to represent the strong women taking on strong characters. In an interview with EW she shares:
“I hope that this film continues pushing that boundary, so that we can actually have more female superheroes who are inherently female and aren’t just Batman in heels or whatever,”
Later in the interview Johansson reflects on 10 years ago when she made her debut in the MCU, talking more on the growth of the industry’s accomplishments since. Current times allow wonderful women to wow with meaning. Scarlett seems very pleased with her Black Widow character in this coming film as she’s able to express emotional intelligence and female qualities.
“I think this character’s strength really lies in her vulnerability and her acceptance of that,” she says. “She has emotional intelligence that has allowed her to survive without any real superpowers. She’s someone who is a problem-solver. She’s a pragmatic person. I think a lot of those qualities are inherently female.”
We’ll get the chance to see Scarlett Johannson take spotlight very soon. Directed by Cate Shortland, Black Widow stars Scarlett Johansson 10 years long character Natasha Romanoff- Black Widow. Johansson has built this character in the Marvel Universe since 2010 where she made the characters debut in Iron Man 2. Now MCU gives Black Widow the stand-alone almost every fan has been asking for and now is the perfect time.
