The upcoming sixth installment in the Scary Movie franchise has an official title. Instead of being simplified to a number, it’ll be called Scary MoVIe, the “VI” signifying the sixth movie by its Roman numeral. The Scary Movie film series first debuted in 2000 and went on to release four sequels through 2013. More than a decade later, the satirical horror series is returning with Scary MoVIe, set to hit theaters next summer. The film is written by Marlon Wayans, Shawn Wayans, Keenen Ivory Wayans, and Rick Alvarez, with Michael Tiddes directing.

Anna Faris and Regina Hall will reprise their iconic roles as Cindy Campbell and Brenda Meeks, while Marlon Wayans returns as Shorty Meeks. Wayans told Entertainment Weekly that he dropped 20 pounds to physically match the character’s classic look, saying, “I didn’t want Shorty to suddenly be buff. I wanted him to look like the same goofy guy fans remember.”
While story details are still under wraps, Wayans has hinted that the film could include references to popular horror releases, such as I Know What You Did Last Summer, Heretic, Longlegs, Get Out, and Sinners.

Scary MoVIe is being produced by the Wayans Brothers and Rick Alvarez. Jonathan Glickman, Alexandra Lowey, and Thomas Zadra are serving as executive producers.
