Scream 7 has set a new (impressive) record, thanks to its early box office numbers.
According to Deadline, the movie generated more revenue than expected during its preview screenings. On Friday, it brought in $7.8 million, which is the highest preview opening in the franchise’s history. It’s still unclear how this will impact the full opening weekend, but it’s a strong start.
Before its release, the movie was expected to earn over $60 million worldwide in its opening weekend. That would make it the second-biggest opening in the series, just behind Scream VI, which made $66.4 million globally and $44.4 million in the U.S. during its debut.

The story follows Sidney Prescott as a new Ghostface killer appears in the quiet town where she has started a new life. When her daughter becomes the killer’s next target, Sidney must face her past once again to protect her family and stop the violence for good.
Scream 7 stars Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox, who both return to the franchise. The cast also includes Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Anna Camp, McKenna Grace, Michelle Randolph, Jimmy Tatro, Asa Germann, Celeste O’Connor, Joel McHale, Sam Rechner, Ethan Embry, Tim Simons, and Mark Consuelos.
The film is directed by franchise creator Kevin Williamson, who co-wrote the script with Guy Busick. It is produced by William Sherak, James Vanderbilt, and Paul Neinstein.
The movie is also expected to bring back surprise returning characters, played by Matthew Lillard, Scott Foley, and David Arquette, despite their characters having previously died in earlier Scream films.
