Sydney Sweeney’s Split Fiction movie has an exciting update. According to game director Josef Fares, the initial screenplay for the film has been turned in. The news was revealed, thanks to his interview with MovieZine.
“I got the first version of the script today, but you know, there’s so much talk in Hollywood,” he told the outlet. “I usually say it like this, ‘I believe it when I see it.’”
He also talked about connecting with Sweeney, saying she’s super chill and that she’s hyped for Split Fiction. As previously reported, the Euphoria actress’s role is still under wraps.

If production starts now, Split Fiction will debut on the big screen between 2027 and 2028.
The movie will be directed by Wicked filmmaker John M. Chu, while Deadpool writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick are handling the script. The film is based on the video game by Hazelight Studios, which was released on March 6, 2025, and has been a huge hit with fans and critics, selling over two million copies in its first week.

The game follows two authors, Mio Hudson and Zoe Foster, who accidentally get trapped inside the fictional worlds they created. The action-adventure game is known for its creative co-op gameplay and fun platforming challenges. It’s available to play on the PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch 2, Xbox Series X and Series S, GeForceNow and Microsoft Windows. The film is being produced by Story Kitchen, the same team behind the successful Sonic the Hedgehog movies, along with John M. Chu’s company, Electric Somewhere.
