The Star Trek prequel movie helmed by Andor director Toby Haynes has received an exciting update. According to Puck, two sources have revealed that Seth Grahame Smith has finished the script and that the movie “is done and on its way toward a green light, possibly by the end of the year, for a shoot in the first half of 2025.” If this is true, the prequel will be “set well before the U.S.S. Enterprise era.” The untitled Star Trek origin flick will reportedly occur decades before the 2009 reboot. Paramount has kept details about the new movie under wraps since the first announcement.
Most of the cast is down to return for a Star Trek reboot. Zachary Quinto, who plays Spock in the sci-fi franchise, said the original cast will always have a chance to star in the show because there’s “no cut-off for the cast.”
“The original cast did movies for decades, well into their 50s and 60s. The stories might be different. We might not be running as fast on the other planets. Still, I think anything’s possible,” he explained, “and I think there’s nothing more fulfilling as an artist than to come back to something after time has passed and cultivate a relationship with it from a completely different perspective and a completely new point of view.”
Abram’s Star Trek movies were shelved after 2016’s Star Trek Beyond. Meanwhile, the fourth film is still in development. Quentin Tarantino, S.J. Clarkson, Noah Hawley, and Matt Shakman were rumored to write or direct Star Trek 4, but this news wasn’t confirmed. Steve Yockey is allegedly writing the latest draft of the script.
