One year ago, Summer Walker broke into the industry and captivated R&B listeners over with her debut album Over It. Lead by alluring singles such as “Playing Games,” “Come Thru” and the record that won us all over “Girls Need Love (Remix)” featuring Drake, Walker’s rookie effort went platinum and was praised by the masses. Now, as she commemorates her success Walker has surprised fans with never-before-seen studio footage of her creating her 2019 banger in celebration of the project’s first anniversary.
As always, Summer’s appearances are short, yet enough to fill you with nostalgia. One would say that she has mastered the art of privacy, therefore making any inside look into her life, or daily routines feel like a prize. The two-minute-long behind the scenes video finds Walker in her element (the studio), crafting her album alongside London on Da Track and LVRN co-founder Justice Baiden. One highlight includes Walker neatly putting together her velvety record “Body,” which samples 702’s ’90s gem “Get It Together.”
“I enjoyed writing and recording this album. It was a great experience to work with London, who is a super talented producer! I also enjoyed working in Las Vegas, close to home,” Walker shared in an interview.
Over It is truly a timeless body of work. One year later, and many of us (especially me) still have it in rotation and on repeat. Walkers sonic versatility, and lyrical savant shined through every single track. Along with the handful of features which included Jhene Aiko, Usher, Bryson Tiller, 6LACK and more Over It connects and resonates with fans all across the board until this very day.
Interscope’s SVP of A&R Tim Glover shared that, “Summer is an extremely talented artist with a clear vision on the type of music she creates and the feeling she wants to convey. The project being so well-received is a true testament to her authenticity.”
