Disney has reportedly hit the pause button on its live-action adaptation of Tangled. Inspired by the Brothers Grimm tale of Rapunzel, the film had been in development for quite some time. However, there’s no information on whether Tangled might be revived in the future. For now, the Tangled film is off Disney’s production slate. The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey was set to helm the film, and Thor: Love and Thunder writer Jennifer Kaytin Robinson was writing the script.

This decision comes on the heels of the low box office performance of Snow White, which only earned $69 million domestically and $145 million globally.
In the meantime, Disney is preparing to drop two more live-action movies based on classic animated hits: Lilo & Stitch, arriving May 23, and Moana, scheduled for July 10, 2026. Moana has already gained praise, thanks to the success of last year’s animated sequel, and Lilo & Stitch caught viewers’ attention through its Super Bowl ad, which quickly became the studio’s most-watched digital spot, while its trailer scored the second-highest 24-hour view count for a Disney live-action release.

The 2010 animated movie Tangled originally amassed nearly $600 million worldwide during its theatrical run and earned an Oscar nomination for Best Original Song. With a Rotten Tomatoes score of 89%, the film was a favorite among both critics and audiences alike.
