Star Wars is bringing back an iconic villain in the new trailer for Star Wars: Maul — Shadow Lord. The new Disney+ and Lucasfilm series will focus on Darth Maul, the bad guy from Star Wars: Episode 1 — The Phantom Menace. In the short clip, black ink splatters over a red background before a red lightsaber opens and Maul’s shadow and face appear. The other details surrounding its plot remain in the air.
Lucasfilm Vice President Athena Portillo told Variety that the show continues amidst Maul landing back on his feet after being defeated by Ahsoka. However, he didn’t give away any other spoilers. “Unfortunately, I can’t tell you too much, but what I can say is Sam Witwer’s involvement in the show has been pristine,” he explained. “I’m very excited about him being able to review the scripts and provide input in all of that as well. Dave Filoni and Sam created the character for animation, and so it’s very important to hear his thoughts as well for the character depth.”
Although there’s no official release date for the show, sources are saying that it’ll premiere sometime this year. The full-length trailer drops tomorrow.
