In honor of the horror flick’s 10th anniversary, The Babadook is re-releasing in theaters. According to Coming Soon, the movie will hit big screens again on September 19. The announcement also comes with a new trailer and poster. The Babadook was initially released in 2014.
IFC Films is responsible for bringing The Babadook back. When the movie re-premieres in theaters, it will include an exclusive Q&A with the film’s director, Jennifer Kent. The Babadook, based on her 2005 short film Monster, served as Kent’s feature directorial debut. The Babadook is about a widowed mother who is mourning the loss of her husband while dealing with her son’s fear of a monster, which she comes to head with firsthand.
“Six years after the violent death of her husband, Amelia is at a loss. She struggles to discipline her ‘out of control’ 6-year-old, Samuel, a son she finds impossible to love. A monster plagues Samuel’s dreams he believes is coming to kill them both,” the official logline reads. “When a disturbing storybook called The Babadook turns up at their house, Samuel is convinced that the Babadook is the creature he’s been dreaming about.
It continues, “His hallucinations spiral out of control. He becomes more unpredictable and violent. Amelia, genuinely frightened by her son’s behavior, is forced to medicate him. But when Amelia begins to see glimpses of a sinister presence all around her, it slowly dawns on her that the thing Samuel has been warning her about may be real.”
The movie stars Essie Davis, Noah Wiseman, Hayley McElhinney, Daniel Henshall, Barbara West, and Ben Winspear.
