The Office‘s new spin-off, The Paper, has a new update ahead of its premiere on Peacock this week. According to Coming Soon, Peacock has greenlit the series for a second season. The news was shared by main stars Domhnall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore during their appearance on NBC’s Today show. Greg Daniels, the creator of The Office and co-creator of The Paper, told Variety that he’s already brainstorming ideas for the next season.
“We definitely have ideas,” he said. “We’ve talked about possible stories for Season 2, and it’ll be interesting to see how audiences react. The early feedback has been positive, but you never know how the wider Office fanbase will respond.”
While Season 2 doesn’t yet have a premiere date, the early renewal could put it on track to return around the same time next year.

Unlike The Office, which followed the employees of Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch, The Paper shifts the focus to the Toledo Truth-Teller, a historic Midwestern newspaper. Gleeson stars as Ned Sampson, a new editor determined to bring the struggling paper back to life.
The cast also includes Chelsea Frei, Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, Tim Key, and Oscar Nuñez, who reprises his role as Oscar Martinez from The Office. The show will also have guest stars like Eric Rahill, Tracy Letts, Molly Ephraim, Mo Welch, Allan Havey, Duane Shepard Sr., Nate Jackson, and Nancy Lenehan.
The Paper is co-created by Daniels and Michael Koman, with both serving as showrunners and executive producers. Daniels also directed the pilot episode. The Office U.K. creators Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant will serve as executive producers as well, alongside Howard Klein, Ben Silverman, and Banijay Americas.
