Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are reprising their lead roles in The Mummy 4. The upcoming movie’s arrival was announced after several outlets reported that a pop culture hit was in the works. Although the plot is under wraps, publications like The Hollywood Reporter, Variety, and Deadline have reported that the beloved action-adventure romance will be directed by Radio Silence and produced by Sean Daniel, who served as producer on the last three films. The cast list has yet to be finalized. However, sources say that the couple’s son could potentially make an appearance.

Premiering on big screens worldwide in 1999, the Fraser and Weisz-starred movie The Mummy was a remake of Universal Studios’ 1932 film within its monsters franchise. The storyline centers on an ancient Egyptian priest named Imhotep who gets mummified because of following his heart, despite it being frowned upon. After accidentally being resurected, its up to adventurer Rick O’Connell and librarian Evelyn Carnahan to stop Imhotep from taking over the world and releasing a dangerous plague.
Despite having mixed reviews from critics, it became a pop culture phenomenon, leading to a new franchise and a slew of movies like The Mummy Returns, The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, and other spin-offs such as The Scorpion King starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Overall, its first movie amassed $422.5 million worldwide and was considered the highest-grossing film that year.
