Wicked stars Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo said they’d love to work together again, but on Broadway!
While being interviewed by The Hollywood Reporter, the two actresses who star in the Jon M. Chu-directed musical film said they’d love to hit the Broadway stage as a duo. Ariana made her Broadway debut in the 2008 musical 13. Meanwhile, Cynthia entered the Broadway scene in the 2015 remake play The Color Purple.
After the interviewer asked Erivo about her dream Broadway role, she said she’d like to dip her toes in a musical in its beginning stages.
“I think I’m ready to try something new,” she stated. “I think I’m ready to try something original that hasn’t been written yet. I’ve done a lot of material that exists, revivals, and I think now is probably when we can find something I can originate.”
“That’s thrilling. I love that,” Grande responded. “I’ll do anything. I’m around, and I’ll send a tape. I’m kidding. No, I’m kidding. I would love to be onstage again. I would love to be onstage with [Erivo] again.”
In turn, Erivo suggested that they should star in Elton John and Tim Rice‘s musical, which ran on Broadway from 2000 to 2004.
“I mean, we could do Aida together,” said Erivo. “That would be fun.”
“I would fall out,” Grande replied with excitement. “I would die.”
“Set in the magical Land of Oz, Wicked follows Elphaba and Glinda’s journey as students at Shiz University, where an unlikely but profound friendship blossoms between them. However, after meeting the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, their bond faces a pivotal challenge,” the logline states.
“Glinda, consumed by her quest for popularity and power, chooses one path, while Elphaba, determined to remain true to her values, takes another. These diverging journeys shape their destinies, leading Glinda to become Glinda the Good and Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West.”
