Disney+ has announced that Star Trek star Zachary Quinto, Emmy-winner Billy Porter, and Fashion Police lead EJ Johnson will be acting in a revival of The Proud Family. The beloved, classic animation series is set to premiere sometime in 2022, 17 years after the original series ended.
Quinto and Porter will play as Randall and Barry Leibowitz-Jenkins, the mixed-race adoptive parents to 14-year-old activist Maya Leibowitz-Jenkins (Keke Palmer). Johnson will be voicing Michael Collins, Penny’s best guy friend who is a self-established trendsetter. Throughout the series, he stunts on everyone in school and on the basketball court.
The Proud Family: Louder and Prouder will continue to follow Penny Proud and her peculiar yet loving family: parents Oscar and Trudy, twin siblings BeBe and CeCe, and her grandmother Suga Mama (and Puff!).
She’s joined once again by her loyal squad Dijonay Jones, LaCienega Boulevardez, and Zoey Howzer, among others.
The Disney+ series will reprise the voice actors: Kyla Pratt as Penny Proud, Tommy Davidson as Oscar Proud, Paula Jai Parker as Trudy Proud, JoMarie Payton as Suga Mama, and Cedric the Entertainer as Uncle Bobby.
Other cast members include: Carlos Mencia as Felix Boulevardez, Maria Canals–Barrera as Sunset Boulevardez, Alvaro Gutierrez as Papi, Karen Malina White as Dijonay Jones, Soleil Moon Frye as Zoey Howzer and Alisa Reyes as LaCienega Boulevardez.
