At the BET Awards, Lil Nas X wowed the crowd during his performance. While reciting the words to his song, “Montero (Call Me By Your Name),” he paid homage to Michael Jackson. Moreso, Lil Nas X did a brief dance rendition from MJ’s music video for “Remember The Time.” The icing on the cake was Lil Nas X’s set up onstage. His props take inspiration from Egypt and its pharaohs.
Toward the end of Lil Nas X’s execution, he kissed one of his backup dancers. Another eye-catcher for the star that night was his outfits. At one point in the night, he wore a full-skirted gown by Italian designer Andrea Grossi. During the other half of the night, he donned a Richard Quinn suit.
Despite the applause Lil Nas X’s “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” received, the musician faced backlash following the release of its music video.
“Even when I was planning the video, I was like, ‘Oh, this is definitely going to hit Fox News,'” Nas told Desus & Mero about the video. “I definitely didn’t expect the outrage as much as it was at all, especially like, governors tweeting me…. It’s like, you don’t have anything better to do?”
Although Lil Nas X wasn’t nominated for any awards, he still took the biggest trophy there is:
