Announced at the 2019 San Diego Comic-Con, MCU’s Blade is getting a reboot with a new face. President of Marvel, Kevin Feige, introduced Mahershala Ali as the new face of Blade! Blade was one of many Marvel movies announced to be in phase 4 at that time. As with most movies, production has been delayed, but it seems like Marvel is closing in on its dream team!
Back in February, it was reported that the reboot’s script writer would be Watchmen’s, Stacy Osei-Kuffour. Since then, Feige, also producer of the reboot, has been on the search for a director to complete the dream team. Originally planning to lock in someone who could both write and direct the film, however, plans seemed to have moved in another direction. The search has reportedly come to an end as Feige has supposedly set his eyes on indie filmmaker, Bassam Tariq.
Tariq is best known for directing short films and documentaries. His most recent work was directing the critically acclaimed, Mogul Mowgli. According to Deadline, there is no confirmed deal in place. If this deal goes through, it will show Feige is sticking by his word to bring more diversity to Marvel films both on/off the screen.
So when can we expect the new Blade? No word on a tentative release day yet but, it has been reported that production will start July, 2022. Hopefully more details will be released soon and the dream team can begin moving forward with the reboot. For now become familiar with the original Blade that starred the one and only Wesley Snipes. I’m sure there will be many new twists, turns and surprises coming with the new reboot!
