Imagine skipping homework to watch cartoons as a child and BOOM, you grow up to become an Emmy Award winning comedian who inks a deal with Warner Bros & Cartoon Network to develop animated shows! Seems kinda far fetched but apparently not for Wyatt Cenac who jokingly attributed him landing such a deal to that very scenario. Cenac stated, “All that time I spent watching cartoons instead of doing my homework is finally starting to pay off. Thank goodness (and I suppose WBA too),” when speaking on the deal. The comedian is set to develop and produce original animated programming at both Warner Bros & Cartoon Network as part of a cross-studio overall deal.
It’s been reported that Cenac has already begun working on two projects, an animated longform movie and adult animated series. The cross-studio deal will allow the comedian to develop animated shows for a wide range of audiences, starting at preschool to adult age. Sam Register president at both WBA and CNS had this to say about the deal, “It is a huge win to have someone as funny, insightful and unique as Wyatt join us at the studios. His creative voice further expands the variety of stories we can tell, and I look forward to a great partnership.”
A great partnership this will be indeed seeing as how Cenac is returning to his roots. The comedian began his career back in 2002 writing for four seasons on King of the Hill. If you haven’t seen King of the Hill please do yourself a favor and watch! If that’s not enough proof of how much of a match made in heaven this partnership is take into consideration Cenac’s long history in Comedy. Cenac has served as a writer and correspondent on Comedy Central’s The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. He also starred in TBS’ People Of Earth, and Medicine for Melancholy. In animation, he has provided recurring voices on Netflix’s Bojack Horseman, Fox’s The Great North and Bob’s Burgers, and FX’s Archer.
There’s no word yet on when the two projects Cenac is currently working on will be released. However, judging by his rap sheet when they formulate, we’re in for a real treat! Be sure to stay up to date with Cenac’s projects by checking out his website which can be found here. In the meantime, do your homework kids, I’m sure cartoon watching is not the only way Cenac landed this amazing deal.
