Over the course of the past decade, A24 has made a name for themselves as one of the preeminent film production companies in all of Hollywood. Captivating fans with movies like 2014’s Ex Machina and 2019’s Midsommar, the independent film studio has established themselves quite well in a relatively short span of time with their uniquely niche style of storytelling. They don’t produce many films however, making virtually every A24 project a must see given the status they have garnered. Thus it is safe to assume that their latest project is sure to catch fans’ attention with the new trailer for The Humans being unveiled this week, ensuring that moviegoers should have an interesting Thanksgiving this year.
While Thanksgiving may be one of the more underappreciated holidays in Hollywood, it isn’t unusual for A24 to do things a little differently. Their latest project The Humans, an adaptation of a broadway play by the same name, will explore the story of a Pennsylvania family who is spending said holiday together, only to be met with the unexpected. While the trailer may come off as whimsical, critics are lauding the project for its ability to oscillate from pleasant to horrifying in a way that is sure to have moviegoers on the edge of their seat. The new film marks Stephen Karam’s directorial debut, who also wrote the award-winning play, and is set to star Richard Jenkins and Amy Schumer, among others. The Humans is expected to premiere in theaters and on Showtime this Thanksgiving season on November 24th.
Given the COVID-19 pandemic, A24 has remained relatively quiet since the beginning of last year. That will seemingly change in the coming months however, with The Humans potentially being the start of a big comeback. Given how starkly the trailer contrasts with critics’ reviews, it is safe to say that it should be interesting to say the least. Moviegoers and Showtime subscribers can find out for themselves when The Humans premieres on November 24th.
