To be able to make one successful Hollywood film is an impressive feat in itself, but to develop an entire franchise is something else. Some of the most successful film franchises such as Star Wars and The Avengers have amassed billions in box office receipts, essentially serving as the backbone for the massive amount of revenue the film industry pulls in every year. While most of these franchises are typically family friendly to generate the most revenue possible, some stray from that norm and tackle less PG-appropriate topics that aren’t suitable for everybody yet still manage to amass notable success. One of the best examples of that in recent years is the Paranormal Activity franchise that explores the dark and occult in a rather unique way, and the new trailer for the latest and seventh installment Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin has just been unveiled for eager fans.
While horror franchises aren’t something new, the Paranormal Activity franchise is unique in the fact that the films take place from the perspective of a handheld camera. This adds a refreshingly ominous twist to the genre that had many critics skeptical of its success when the first film released in 2007, however that skepticism has clearly been assuaged. Paramount Pictures is currently gearing up for the release of the seventh installment of their very successful franchise, and just this week they released the official trailer for the new project Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin. The new film clearly ventures well outside of the setting of its 2007 predecessor however, taking place in a rural community that seemingly has a very dark secret. Though relatively short, the trailer delivers in typical Paranormal Activity fashion and lets us know when we can expect the project: Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin is set to hit Paramount+ just in time for Halloween on October 29th.
While horror franchises are typically the biggest breadwinners, the Paranormal Activity franchise has certainly been a good source of revenue for Paramount. The original Paranormal Activity film cost less than a quarter of a million dollars to produce yet amassed nearly $200 million in box office receipts alone, not bad for a movie that many expected to flop. Paranormal Activity has withstood the test of time, and now the next installment of the franchise is just a few weeks away. Paramount+ subscribers can catch Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin on October 29th.
