Escape into the woods with Peacock’s latest supernatural drama series set to be released on October 21. The eight-episode series follows a teenage girl who escapes her alleged cult-like colony that lies behind a secret door in the woods. Yesterday, September 27 Peacock TV released the official trailer for the upcoming series. Captioning the video on Instagram, the streaming service set the tone, writing, “Your newest borrow obsession is almost here.”
The series is based on the 2018 short film The Door in the Woods by Joey Green and the 2020 sequel The Girl in the Woods by David Calbert, Van Nguyen, and Roxine Helberg. Crypt TV produced the series. Jane Casey Modderno is the head writer, and Krysten Ritter and Jacob Chase direct it. Ritter had this to say, “As a huge fan of horror and all things coming of age, this is one of the most exciting pilot scripts I’ve gotten my hands on. I fell in love with the characters, the writing, the setting, and the themes the second I read it.”
According to reports, so far, the series seems like an updated version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer for those who were fans. A teen girl on a quest with her two friends “coming up against all kinds of creepy, crawly creatures.” The main characters include Carrie played by Stefanie Scott, her two friends Misha Osherovich as Nolan and Sofia Bryant as Tasha. Other costars are Will Yun Lee, Kylie Liya Page, and Leonard Roberts.
The official synopsis reads,
Set in the Pacific Northwest, THE GIRL IN THE WOODS follows Carrie’s escape from her mysterious, cult-like colony that guards the world from monsters hidden behind a secret door within the woods. The series also touches on contemporary social issues like LGBTQ+ discrimination, the human cost of environmentalism and the consequences of inequality.
