In the modern era of Hollywood, documentaries are seemingly more popular than ever before. In an incredibly diverse world with a myriad of intriguing topics that span across countless cultures, there is plenty on this Earth for documentarians to explore in greater depth. Whether that be a series like Planet Earth that explores the vast array of nature that this planet is home to or Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness which focuses on a rather unique sect of humanity and how they conduct themselves, the opportunities are virtually limitless for the creative minds driving these projects forward. Now a new documentary is on Hollywood’s horizon with Dan Akroyd helping champion a project about the iconic fictional musical duo best known as the Blues Brothers.
Born out of a Saturday Night Live sketch, the Blues Brothers were the byproduct of the creative minds of Akroyd and John Belushi as they played two brothers that formed a musical duo. Though their inception occurred on late-night television, their influence expanded well past that with the release of the 1980 film The Blues Brothers that saw the two men fulfill their roles on the silver screen. The film would quickly become a cult classic amongst moviegoers as the characters and their story translated into film incredibly well, serving as the basis for two very successful Hollywood careers. Now Akroyd and Belushi’s estate are working to return to the iconic roles that helped launch their careers with a Blues Brothers documentary series that is set to explore the ethos behind the characters like never before. The project is said to include previously unseen materials of the duo at work and will serve to illuminate the creative process behind The Blues Brothers.
The Blues Brothers did an excellent job of highlighting the intersection of different areas of entertainment as it was taking place in the 1980’s. The world of pop culture as we know it was beginning to form around this time and, in that, The Blues Brothers couldn’t have come at a better time. Now they’ll be getting another opportunity to shine in this new project that will introduce the duo to a whole new generation of fans, with more details about the pending Blues Brothers documentary series set to emerge in the coming weeks.
