When Marvel set out to produce the film Iron Man in 2008, it’s unlikely they had any idea of the success they were setting themselves up for. Coined the Marvel Cinematic Universe, or MCU for short, the collection of films, television series and other projects encompasses both some of the most iconic superheroes of all time as well as some of the most successful films in Hollywood’s lengthy history. The MCU is constantly expanding with Marvel eager to provide its fans with the action-packed content they have become notorious for, and they typically do a pretty good job of it. For example, the latest update from them should have fans of the iconic film universe: Charlie Cox has been confirmed to reprise his role as the iconic superhero Daredevil in the near future.
Originally cast in the role for the Netflix series Daredevil which ran from 2015 to 2018, Cox helped breathe life back into a role that had seemingly been left for dead. After several failed attempts to get the Daredevil franchise off its feet in the early 2000s, many had thought it was dead in the water and didn’t expect anything to come of it. Netflix decided to give it one last shot however, and that seemed to be the one that hit the mark as their Daredevil series ran for three successful seasons before coming to an end. Now, in an interview with CinemaBlend this week, head of Marvel Studios Kevin Fiege has confirmed Cox will be reprising his role as Daredevil in future projects noting “If you want to see Daredevil in upcoming things, Charlie Cox, yes, would be the actor playing Daredevil.” While no projects have been confirmed as of yet, the thought has clearly crossed the minds of the creative team at Marvel and could materialize into something very real, very soon.
Marvel has turned virtually everything they have touched into gold for over a decade now, with an array of new Marvel projects released throughout the pandemic to appease eager fans. Now that theaters are reopened and life is getting back to normal, they are only bound to take that up a notch as moviegoers expect the most out of the esteemed production company. Marvel has a pretty strong tendency to deliver on those expectations however, so fans of the MCU can be on the lookout for further updates from Fiege and company in the coming future.
